LFC launch Australian Facebook page
Liverpool FC are delighted to announce that Australia has become only the second country in the world to be granted a dedicated Facebook page by the club.
Last month, the Reds launched a Facebook page specifically for fans in India and today's announcement follows the news that Liverpool will be visiting Australia for the first time ever this summer.
The team will take on Melbourne Victory on July 24 in a match that could see close to 100,000 fans pack into the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
In January, Liverpool became the first and only football club in England to launch an official Twitter account for fans in Australian and New Zealand - @LFCANZ - and now more than 150,000 supporters living in Australia who already follow the official Liverpool FC Facebook page will automatically see the new account - and the content on their timeline - tailored exclusively for them.
The editorial content shared on the new Facebook page will still cover everything happening at the club but from photo albums showcasing Australian kids in kits and news of match screenings from Perth to Sydney, there will be a noticeable focus on what it means to support Liverpool in Australia.
"This latest development is part of a concerted campaign in 2013 to reach out to supporters all over the world and find new ways of increasing our engagement with fans, no matter where they live," said Paul Rogers, LFC's head of international digital development.
"Language is not a barrier to engaging with the club for our fans in Australia but we've found that the time difference is a real issue. The vast majority of our updates on our global Facebook page - run out of Liverpool - actually occur when our Australian fans are offline so this is a great opportunity to create something far more compelling and interactive for supporters on that side of the world.
"In the coming weeks and months we hope to announce further country and language specific social media accounts to increase our engagement with fans all over the world."
