Hillsborough poem raises funds for charity
A Hillsborough poem has been included in a new book that aims to raise funds for ChildLine.
'E I Ad eyo' is based on the 1989 disaster in which 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives. It was written by Elizabeth Williams immediately after Hillsborough and is included in '100 Years of Childhood Innocence'.
Elizabeth, who has done 10 years of voluntary work for ChildLine, based her book on a collection of childhood memories from a range of people in the last century.
Any proceeds raised from the sales of the book are being kindly donated to ChildLine, the free and confidential helpline for children and young people.
Elizabeth explains that she drew inspiration to write the poem from how saddened she was by Hillsborough and felt it was suitable for it to be incorporated into her book alongside other stories involving children.
She revealed: "I wrote the poem on the day of the Hillsborough tragedy and sent it the following day to Liverpool FC.
"I was moved to write the poem as I felt greatly upset and saddened by the disaster. I can't say what I hoped it would do, I just needed to send it.
"I thought it fitting that the poem should be included in a book about children."
Elizabeth also believes that it was the correct move to re-distribute any money earned from the book to ChildLine so that stories based on children in the past can provide for kids in need today.
The author concluded: "I have worked as a volunteer at ChildLine for 10 years and realise that not all children have a happy and stable childhood.
"It seemed a natural course to take to give the profits to ChildLine so that those children who feel they have no-one else to turn to can find the help and support they need."
