Rush: I'd love to play with Coutinho
Liverpool's all-time record goalscorer Ian Rush admits he would relish the opportunity to be latching onto one of Philippe Coutinho's trademark throughballs.
The ex-Wales international lavished praise on the 20-year-old - who fired the winner in the Reds' final game of the 2012-13 campaign against QPR - and feels that his combination with the likes of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard could be key for Brendan Rodgers' side next season.
Rush declared: "He [Coutinho] has got a football brain; he sees the movement of the players. I think a lot of midfielders look to go sideways but his first thought is looking forward.
"Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard - these are players with a football brain that know when to run into space and he [Coutinho] sees that there. He is a bit like when Kenny used to play - players with these football brains see that before anyone else and I think it was nice for him to get a goal [against QPR].
"When he does his passing, if I was a striker I'd be like 'come next season, I want to be playing with him in my side'."
Looking ahead to next season, Rush continued: "We've got to work as a team and if we can get clean sheets those four can beat any side in the world. I'm really looking forward to seeing those four playing in the same team.
"We're playing better football and it's good football. We're confident on the ball and that's what I like."
Meanwhile, Rush believes Jamie Carragher's glittering career at Anfield has prompted youngsters to idolise the 35-year-old.
The defender said farewell to the Kop on Sunday and Rush feels that he was given the send-off that he deserves.
Looking back on the historic and emotional day, the Reds legend said: "It was absolutely incredible. It was a beautiful day as well.
"The scene was set for Carra and the only thing that was missing was his 30-yard shot that hit the post. I think if that had gone in there would have been incredible noise!
"I think he's something for young people to look up to. People from the academy come and say 'I want to be like Jamie Carragher' and that's what he's achieved."
