Daniel Sturridge faces a scan on his injured ankle after he was forced off the field during England's 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool man had made a lively opening to the game on his first start for his country, and after Shane Long had headed Ireland into the lead, Sturridge crossed for Frank Lampard to net the equaliser.

However, the Reds striker picked up the injury just before the half-hour mark after a challenge from Stoke City's Glenn Whelan and was unable to continue.

Anfield teammate Glen Johnson played the opening 45 minutes before being rested for the second half.

England boss Roy Hodgson revealed after the game that Sturridge will definitely miss the trip to Brazil for Sunday's friendly.
