Ryan McLaughlin has picked out Liverpool first-team regular Glen Johnson as a role model, alongside Champions League-winning full-backs Daniel Alves and Philipp Lahm.

The Northern Ireland youngster enjoyed a season of progress in 2012-13, travelling on the club's pre-season tour of North America, marking Italian legend Francesco Totti and cementing a berth in the Reds' U21 side.

The 18-year-old is focused on learning and improving further during the years to come and revealed which players he watches for inspiration along the way.

"I like to look at players in my position to learn things from, like Philipp Lahm, Glen Johnson and Dani Alves," McLaughlin told TheBibTheorists website.

Expanding further on his ambitions at Anfield, the young defender explained his dream scenario for the next five years.

He added: "The dream would be to be playing week in, week out for Liverpool as well as challenging for trophies and winning them."
