Wisdom: We're ready for any challenge
Andre Wisdom insists Liverpool are well-prepared to meet any challenge they face in the Barclays Premier League as the Reds attempt to bounce back from consecutive defeats at Sunderland on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers' team kicked off the 2013-14 season with four successive victories in league and cup, form good enough to secure top spot in the standings throughout the international break.
But the Reds have endured a frustrating fortnight since; a 2-2 draw at Swansea City preceded defeat at home to Southampton in the Premier League and at Manchester United in the Capital One Cup.
Nevertheless, Wisdom believes his team can travel to the Stadium of Light with confidence of achieving a positive result against a side who have yet to claim three points in the league this season.
"We're going to face different types of opponents; different things they may be better at or not so good at," the defender told Liverpoolfc.com.
"We have to capitalise on their weaknesses and try to limit their strengths. Each game is a different test and a different challenge, no matter which team it is.
"We saw against Notts County, we went to extra-time with them. Maybe Sunderland will be a different test to Manchester United but everyone is prepared for whatever comes at us.
"Everyone is desperate for a win. We've played five games and this will be our sixth, against Sunderland.
"Sunderland have been through a bit of a rocky time with the manager getting sacked, but every team always comes out fighting and wanting to win.
"No team wants to lose. We're the same - we'll go there with a winning mentality and do all that we can. It's always important to have a good performance and hopefully when you play well you get the result that you want.
"Maybe some decisions may not go your way, or a bit of luck is needed - hopefully we can get that. We've had a good start to the season and we just need to keep improving on that; keep scoring, keeping clean sheets and so forth."
Despite Rodgers bolstering his defensive ranks with four new players during the summer, Wisdom has followed up his breakthrough season with three appearances to date in the current campaign.
The 20-year-old is learning just as much from training every day at Melwood, though, with his colleagues in the backline boasting a wealth of experience at the highest levels of the game.
He added: "The competition is always high no matter what position it is. We've got numerous players in every position now.
"Training is good - it's intense and quick - and the players have got a good desire to train hard and try to get a shirt at the weekend. Defenders, midfield players and strikers now, we're spoilt for choice.
"There are some experienced defenders, internationals with a lot of Champions League experience. It's good for the likes of me and the other young defenders to learn from and keep trying to improve the defence.
"Hopefully we can keep improving the team as a whole and individuals can try to win the game for us. Collectively it's all about the team and hopefully we can go into the match at the weekend and get the result that we need."
