Now fully fit and ready for selection again, Glen Johnson is determined to fight for his place in both the Liverpool and the England team.

The 29-year-old suffered an ankle sprain towards the end of the Reds' 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield at the beginning of September.

After seven weeks of rehabilitation, though, Brendan Rodgers revealed earlier this week that the full-back is in contention to return against Newcastle United today.

And as he approaches the 150-appearance mark for the club, Johnson remains as committed as ever to the Liverpool cause.

The Liverpool No.2 explained to The Times: "This is where I want to be.

"It's where I'm happy and it's what I'm fighting to do at the moment. I'm fighting to get fit and fighting to get a shirt on again.

"All I can do is concentrate on working hard and doing well on the pitch. That's served me well over the last five years and I'm sure it will serve me well in the future."

The injury forced Johnson to watch from the sidelines as England sealed their spot at the World Cup next summer with crucial consecutive wins over Montenegro and Poland.

Although the Three Lions international was naturally disappointed to miss the important double-header, he was equally as satisfied with his country's successful qualification.

"I don't worry about what other people do. Watching the game, I wanted England to win," he added.

"It's as simple as that. We all want to be in Brazil in 2014 and there was no way I was going to wish that a player do badly just because he's playing in my position.

"Besides, I was a part of it. I played in every game before my injury, so I played a massive part in it.

"Obviously to watch any game that you should be involved in is frustrating. It was fantastic for everyone involved and those are the games you want to play in."
