Johnson drops by the Foundation Football College
Reds’ star right-back, Glen Johnson, recently paid a visit to the Liverpool FC Foundation Football College.
The club's No.2 spent the afternoon watching the male and female teams training out on the pitches and later hosted a Q&A session with a group of BTEC students.
The students' passion was evident as they scrambled to get the best seat in the room to ask Johnson about his footballing career and journey to date.
The full-back, who spoke candidly to the students, said: "I think it is really important for the players to show their support and visit this fantastic facility. It provides students with a solid academic base alongside their football training, which is vital for their futures.
"For me to be able to share my experiences with the students and inspire their passions and life goals is really rewarding."
The college, which is open to boys and girls aged between 16 and 19, is based at Wyncote Sports Ground in South Liverpool.
Equipped with top-of-the-range facilities supplied by the University of Liverpool, it encourages students to hone their football and coaching skills and gain academic qualifications, including level 1, 2 and 3 in Maths, English, ICT and PSD.
David MacDairmid, college director at Liverpool FC Foundation Football College, said: "The Foundation College aims to engage local youngsters and give them an opportunity through football. This can range from those looking to gain a place at University or a scholarship overseas to those leaving school without any formal qualifications.
"We harness the respect of the club in the city to attract youngsters who may be not be engaged in education, employment or training. We encourage them to be involved in something worthwhile to help them to improve their life chances."
During his visit, Glen was interviewed by the BBC's Match of the Day presenter Damian Johnson about the college and his Liverpool and England career to date. Damien also spoke to Liverpool Ladies central midfielder, Fara Williams, who is also a coach at the College as well as staff and students.
