Liverpool's towering centre-back Mamadou Sakho has been announced as an ambassador for the club's official charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, at a local school in Anfield.

Sakho's new role with the Liverpool FC Foundation will complement the work that his teammate Lucas Leiva undertakes as trustee.

The 23-year-old French international, who signed for the club in September, was at All Saints Primary School, where he will be actively involved in football coaching sessions and French lessons.

As part of his ambassadorial role, the centre-back will assist the Liverpool FC Foundation community coaches who deliver football sessions at the school each week as well as help pupils with the verbal speaking side of their French language studies.

Sakho said: "Community work is something I am really passionate about as I think it is very important to give something back. As an ambassador for the Liverpool FC Foundation, I am hoping to lend my support to their fantastic initiatives as much as I possibly can."

Mark Haig, the Liverpool FC Foundation's head of operations, said: "We are delighted that Mamadou has offered his time and expertise to become an ambassador for the Liverpool FC Foundation. I am certain that his input will benefit the charity and the people we help in the local community and beyond."

Sakho is planning to visit the school at least once a month throughout the rest of the season. As well as coaching and mentoring the children on the pitch, he will also be joining in with their French lessons and hoping in return that they can help him with his English, which he is currently learning.
