Carroll: I'll do my best to help
West Ham United striker Andy Carroll is hoping he can do his former Liverpool teammates a favour against Manchester City today - as too is boyhood Red Kevin Nolan.
The pair are set to line-up at the Eithad Stadium this afternoon, where a victory for the visiting Hammers coupled with a win for Brendan Rodgers' men over Newcastle would see the league title head to Merseyside.
"I am hoping that Liverpool win the league and I will do my best to score at the Etihad," said Carroll, who netted 11 goals in 58 appearances during two and a half years at Anfield before joining West Ham permanently last summer.
"I have still got a lot of friends at the club and the lads were brilliant when I was up there.
"To be honest, I think that Stevie Gerrard deserves to win the league. He has been there so long and the football they have played, they definitely deserve it.
"They are great fans and even when they were not winning the league or challenging up there, they were still fantastic. They stuck by the team and that is where they are now."
His sentiments are echoed by teammate and West Ham captain, Nolan.
The Liverpool-born midfielder was on the Reds' youth books between the ages of nine and 14.
Nolan said: "I think I would be celebrating with them if they win the league. It's looking good in the fact that it's great to see Liverpool in that position on the last day of the season.
"If we can help them in any way, we've got a few boys who played there before with a few friends up there, it will be a nice way to finish off the season.
"I had a great few years there. There are people who are still there who taught me and who were coaching me at the time. Every time I go back I have a good rapport with the fans.
"I hope they do it. But first and foremost I just hope we get the points we want. It's keeping us in the position where we are and that's where we want to stay."
