Gallery: LFC's history in penalty shootouts
While Tuesday's nail-biting penalty shootout against Middlesbrough was one of the most exhilarating of recent times, for Kopites of a certain vintage, nerve-wracking spot-kick duels are nothing new.
Since the Reds' first shootout against Leeds United at Wembley in the 1974 Charity Shield, fans have watched with bated breath as no fewer than 14 such contests have unfolded on the field before them.
Liverpool have won 12 of those shootouts, with two of the club's five European Cups secured as a result of players holding their nerve under immense pressure from 12 yards.
So we've trawled through the archives to produce a selection of images which bring to life the club's penalty successes, in a variety of cup competitions, for you to enjoy via the gallery below.
