Aintree Racecourse will host its own version of the Merseyside derby and raise money for the Hillsborough Family Support Group in the process with a 'Merseyside Sporting Masterminds' charity event next month.

The quiz-style occasion, to be hosted by Sue Johnston MBE on Thursday October 9 at the home of the world-famous Grand National, will pit legends and senior figures of Liverpool FC against their Everton counterparts.

Chief executive officer Ian Ayre will captain the Reds team in the contest, while the Blues will be led by chairman Bill Kenwright alongside midfielder Leon Osman and former striker Graeme Sharp.

Tickets for the event cost £65, with guests enjoying a three-course meal before the main event gets underway, while local comedian Darren Farley provides further entertainment on the evening.

A fundraising auction on behalf of the Hillsborough Family Support Group will also take place, featuring signed Liverpool and Everton shirts among a host of sought-after items available for bidding.

Tickets are available now and more information can be found by clicking here or calling 0844 579 3001. Tickets can be purchased directly from the sales office at Aintree Racecourse too.

Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, said: "We are extremely grateful for the continued support we receive from Aintree Racecourse."

John Baker, north west regional director for Jockey Club Racecourses, added: "At Aintree Racecourse we are keen to strengthen our ties within the local community and supporting the Hillsborough Family Support Group is something we feel strongly about.

"We hope this night provides not only a fantastic night of sporting entertainment and comedy for all who attend, but also helps to raise money towards this worthwhile cause."
