It was a night of celebrations for Martin Skrtel and his Slovakian teammates as they claimed a momentous 2-1 victory over Spain in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Thursday.

The Liverpool defender featured for the entire 90 minutes at Stadion Pod Dubnom, helping to keep things tight at the back as the home nation grabbed a dramatic late winner against the reigning European champions.

Spain fielded a strong side, starting with the likes of David Silva, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Koke and the Barclays Premier League's leading goalscorer, Diego Costa, within their ranks.

However, the Slovakians edged ahead after 17 minutes when Vladimir Weiss's precise free-kick was buried beyond Iker Casillas by the right boot of Genoa's Juraj Kucka.

The Spanish swamped their opponents in the second half, firing attempt after attempt at Matus Kozacik's goal before equalising in the 82nd minute through Alcacer García.

But Skrtel and co were far from finished - and with three minutes of normal time remaining, Miroslav Stoch struck the winner to clinch a famous win for Slovakia and inflict Spain's first qualification defeat since October 2006.
