Ian Rush made it a very special day for Liverpool super fan Betty Musker when he paid her a surprise visit on the eve of her 104th birthday on Thursday.

The club ambassador attended Golborne House care home in Warrington to hand deliver a card, personalised Reds home shirt and an LFC Official Membership pack.

Betty, who turns 104 on Friday and is the club's oldest Official Member, is a lifelong Liverpool supporter who still watches all of their matches on television.

Having once lived in high-rise flats on Sheil Road in Kensington, which is approximately one mile away from Anfield, she had the added luxury of a bird's-eye view of the famous ground from her 15th floor balcony.

Betty, who has a daughter, three granddaughters, six great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren, was delighted to share her pre-birthday celebrations with the Reds legend.

She said: "I was so surprised and shocked when Ian came in to see me today. It was really nice of him to take the time out to bring me an LFC shirt and other gifts for my birthday. This is definitely something I will never forget."

Betty spends a lot of her time knitting cardigans to give to local hospitals for premature babies and she also knits jumpers and hats for babies in Africa. And Rush enjoyed hearing some of here fondest memories and posed for pictures with her and her family.

He added: "It was an honour to surprise Betty today at her care home on the eve of her birthday. She is an amazing lady and a fantastic supporter of the club."
