It was a case of missed chances proving costly for Liverpool U18s as they lost 2-1 away at Sunderland on Saturday.

With the U21s in action at Fulham on Sunday, Neil Critchley fielded a young side in the North-East and they played well at times, but just couldn't finish off good openings.

Sergi Canos scored a brilliant consolation goal for the Reds but it was a frustrating day for Critchley's charges.

"We played well, dominated the play but just couldn't score," Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com.

"We played some great football at times and had some big moments to score but it was one of them days in front of goal. They got a lot of players behind the ball and we just couldn't break them down."

Liverpool U18s: Firth (Jackson 30), Lewis (Whelan 55), Travis, Brewitt, Polgar, Phillips, Canos, Ejaria (Maxwell 75), Watts, Marsh, Nicholas.
