Liverpool FC's International Academy in India, DSK Shivajians, made a winning debut in the U19 I-League on Sunday by beating PIFA Sports 6-0 in Pune.

The project is unique to the country as the first full-time residential academy operated in conjunction with a professional European club.

Months of hard work in the development and implementation of the programme has enabled 64 players to join the LFC International Academy at the DSK Dream City Complex.

The I-League competition provides an opportunity for enrolled players to test themselves in the premier tournament in India for those at U19 level.

Based in Pune, the academy was officially opened in June 2014 by former Liverpool vice-captain Jamie Carragher.

Dave Rogers, head coach, said: "We are delighted with the victory. The players have been putting in the hours in training and the result proved that.

"Winning the debut match in the U19 I-League is an extremely proud moment for the boys and for all of us at the academy.

"We still have a long way to go in the tournament and we believe that we can replicate such performances throughout the U19 I-League."

Next up for the team in the division is a local derby with Pune FC, away from home on Friday December 19.
