There is one word at the top of Philippe Coutinho's New Year resolutions list – improvement.

The Liverpool midfielder was recognised yesterday for a series of emphatic displays in December with the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award, voted by fans.

Brendan Rodgers' side steadily improved their level of performance and, crucially, results as a hectic festive fixture list progressed, culminating in a fine victory over Swansea City in the final match of 2014.

A frustrating 2-2 draw with Leicester City at Anfield followed, before a hard-fought and tricky FA Cup tie at AFC Wimbledon was successfully navigated to reach the fourth round.

It leaves Coutinho to set clear objectives as he looks ahead to 2015 and, with league football accompanied by three trophies on offer, the No.10 has high hopes for the year.

"We've found our way on the pitch and we've been playing better, with confidence," he told Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood.

"I believe we're on the right track as we played well in most of the December games. I hope we can keep playing well throughout this year.

"I just hope we can keep improving. Everybody's feeling happy as a new year has begun. I truly hope things go our way in 2015."
