Satara Murray netted on her debut as Liverpool Ladies beat Aston Villa 4-1 in a pre-season friendly at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes on Sunday afternoon.

The American defender, who signed for the Reds from North Carolina Tar Heels, was on the mark in the first friendly of the campaign for Matt Beard's reigning Women's Super League champions.

Goal machine Natasha Dowie netted a double strike and a trialist was also on the mark.

Following a bright opening from Beard's side, England international Dowie opened the scoring after two minutes firing home from a corner after the Aston Villa defence failed to clear the initial set piece.

The Reds doubled their lead 10 minutes later as a trialist finished off a good team move.

The visitors from the Midlands halved the deficit moments after the re-start as Natasha Baptiste finished neatly passed Danielle Gibbons following a defensive mistake from the home side.

However, Beard's charges soon opened up another two goal lead just after the hour mark as a clinical finish from Dowie gave the visitors goalkeeper no chance as the No.9 made it 3-1.

The final goal of the game came from debutant Murray as the 21-year-old scored with an emphatic header from a Fara Williams corner to wrap up a comfortable victory for Beard's side.
