Simon Mignolet heaped praise on his Liverpool teammates for the manner in which they restricted Burnley to a solitary shot on target in a commanding 2-0 victory on Wednesday night.

The Belgian was forced into a single save in the game - an authoritative leap to intercept Ashley Barnes' header in the closing stages of the first half at Anfield.

Mignolet was in control of his area, racing to claim crosses and marshalling the defence en route to keeping his 13th clean sheet of the season in all competitions.

The likes of Emre Can, Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren applied constant pressure to the opposition wherever possible in order to deny Burnley's forwards the opportunity to turn and cause problems.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, wonderful goals gave Liverpool the three points. Jordan Henderson hit a sublime strike in front of the Kop before teeing up Daniel Sturridge, who nodded home the Reds' second.

"We got what we wanted tonight," Mignolet told Liverpoolfc.com from the tunnel following the final whistle. "Burnley are always a team that are dangerous.

"Burnley have shown that they can get points away from home against Manchester City and Chelsea. So you always have to be ready for set-pieces and crosses.

"They are willing to fight for every single ball. But I think we did our jobs really well today and we didn't give them the opportunity to score.

"I think we defended really well. We were very organised and we didn't give too many things away. We picked the players up on set-pieces. We're doing our jobs at the moment and we have to keep that going until the end of the season because it makes it easier for us to win games.

"Even at half-time, when it was 1-0, we were saying that we had to keep going because one goal can change the whole game. We kept calm and defended well and then we got that second goal, which makes things a little bit easier for us at the end."

Coming on the back of a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City, the win against Sean Dyche's side maintained Liverpool's unbeaten league record in 2015 and set them up nicely for the next challenge that awaits them.

Blackburn Rovers will journey to L4 for what will be a third consecutive home tie for the Reds - this time in the FA Cup with a place in the competition's semi-finals, at Wembley, to fight for.

"The win over Manchester City would have counted for nothing if we had have lost to Burnley," said Mignolet. "So six points out of six was what we wanted and we can move forward. We haven't got a league game now in a short space of time, so we can look forward to the FA Cup.

"The only thing we can do is take each game as it comes. We can't look too far ahead of us. We want to win every single game. Every time we go out there, we try to get the three points.

"We need to keep doing what we're doing and we still have that FA Cup game which we want to win as well. Hopefully we can do well on both fronts."
