Callum Nicholas fired a stoppage-time decider as Liverpool U18s returned to winning ways with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Derby County on Saturday.

After netting on his U18s debut last week at Brighton & Hove Albion, Portugal youth international Toni Gomes was a double marksman against the young Rams.

He fired Neil Critchley's side ahead but the opposition stormed back into the tie to turn the tables and establish a 2-1 lead.

Gomes equalised before the two substitutes, Kris Owens and Nicholas, combined for the winning goal, with the latter steering home to seal victory.

After successive 3-2 defeats away at Brighton and West Ham United, Critchley's charges made amends in the best possible way this weekend.

Reflecting on the victory, the boss told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's nice to be on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline for once!

"To go 2-1 down, I thought the spirit and character of the lads was superb and I'm absolutely delighted with the boys.

"It was great for Callum to get our winner in stoppage time and Toni scored two superb goals for us."

Liverpool U18s: Wheeler, Alexander-Arnold, Polgar (Owens 20), Parker, Virtue, Brimmer (Whyte 80), Kane, Madger Gomes, Toni Gomes, Ejaria, Dhanda (Nicholas 65).
