St Paul's School were celebrating after retaining the Liverpool Cup in fine style after a 2-0 victory over St Anne's School at the Academy.

Celebrating its 37th year, eight local schools took part in the Liverpool Cup staged at the Kirkby Academy, and after winning the Liverpool Cup last year, St Paul's showed just why they are not yet ready to give up their crown.

St Paul's also had a share of another trophy as they lifted the Jack Cross Cup along with Somerville after drawing in the final.

Blackmoor Park and Farnborough also played some great football during their run to the semi-finals.

Patrick Campbell and Faye Boness both from St Paul's scooped the Ian McGivering Trophy and David Moores Trophy for their outstanding performances in the tournament.

Liverpool legend Ronnie Moran was joined by Liverpool Ladies duo Danielle Gibbons and Line Smorsgard to assist with the presentation of the trophies and giving out goodie bags to all the youngsters as well as posing for photos with all of the participating teams and club mascot, Mighty Red.

Liverpool Cup secretary, Steve Sass, said: "The Liverpool Cup is always a fantastic occasion and tonight proved to be no different.

"The experience of being able to play at the Academy is something that will live with the kids forever.

"This tournament has a rich heritage in providing youngsters from Liverpool with an opportunity to compete in an elite competition and the standard improves year after year.

"The tournament continues to go from strength to strength and I am already looking forward to next year's competition."

All proceeds raised from the Liverpool Cup are being re-distributed back to schools throughout Merseyside to provide more sporting opportunities for local children.
