Emre Can scored the equaliser as Germany began their U21 European Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw against Serbia on Wednesday night.

Liverpool's No.23 was named from the start for the Group A encounter in Prague, Czech Republic.

His country fell behind after just eight minutes, however, as Filip Djuricic broke the deadlock to put Serbia ahead.

But Can brought Germany level with a composed, side-foot finish from the edge of the penalty box shortly past the quarter-hour mark.

There were no further goals and the two teams settled for a point in their first outing of the competition.

Next up for the Reds man and his side is a clash with Denmark, early leaders of the group, on Saturday June 20.
