Danny Ings played the second 45 minutes as England U21s kept alive their UEFA U21 European Championship hopes with a crucial 1-0 win over Sweden in Group B on Sunday.

Having lost their opening fixture 1-0 to Portugal, Gareth Southgate's side needed a victory to keep their qualification hopes alive in the group.

After a frustrating opening half, Southgate turned to Ings to join Tottenham's Harry Kane in the attack for the second period, but for long periods they just couldn't break down a well organised Sweden outfit

Ings had a good shout for a penalty turned down before five minutes from time the young Lions made the breakthrough when Manchester United's Jesse Lingard fired home a brilliant effort.

Ings and England U21s now face Italy in their final group game on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Tiago Ilori gave another faultless performance at centre-back as Portugal and Italy played out a goalless draw on Sunday night.

Ilori played the full 90 minutes and Portugal remain top of Group B.
