Karl-Heinz Riedle has welcomed the arrival of Jürgen Klopp to Anfield and insists the new manager and the football club are a ‘perfect match’.

The former Liverpool and Germany striker joined the Reds from the manager’s former club Borussia Dortmund, and knows at first hand just what an outstanding job Klopp did in his homeland.

Speaking with LFCTV, Riedle said: “I’m very pleased Liverpool have appointed Klopp because he is a very good coach.

“He is very experienced now and he had great success with Borusia Dortmund, and I think it’s the perfect match for Liverpool.

“I have spoken to a lot of players who have been coached by him over recent years and they all talk the same language and say he is a fantastic coach.

“They say he is a fantastic coach and he’s very good to the players. He can motivate brilliantly and he develops younger players into world-class players.”

Riedle, who made 76 appearances in a red shirt under Roy Evans, also believes the Kop will welcome the new boss with open arms and claims exciting times lie ahead.

He added: “This is the right choice Liverpool have made. He is very close to the fans and he can bring enthusiasm back to Liverpool Football Club.

“This is a great move for him and the club.”
