Jon Flanagan and Jordan Rossiter went back to school as they paid a very special visit to St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School in Walton this week to open a new astroturf pitch.

For Flanagan it was a case of going back to his roots, as he used to attend the school when he was a youngster.

And both he and his Liverpool teammate Rossiter were warmly received by the pupils as they helped open the new facilities.

After meeting with head teacher Moira Loftus and teacher Mark Edwards, Flanagan and Rossiter also enjoyed a Q and A session with the children.

Flanagan said: “It's great to come and see all the kids enjoying the new astroturf and for me to see the place again.

"It's changed massively, we didn't have all these facilities when I was here and it's great what they're doing for the kids.”
