Baros had twice put the Reds ahead at Anfield only for the visitors to peg them back on each occasion, meaning the fixture looked set to end in a draw entering the 89th minute.
However, the Czech forward won a crucial penalty in the final minute of normal time and expertly dispatched it to clinch the points for Rafael Benitez's team.
