'So far, so good' is how Jürgen Klopp described his first 100 days in charge of Liverpool today, but stressed there was still room for improvement as he aims to take his side on the next step of their development.

The landmark was reached on Friday and the boss has presided over 21 games during that time, winning 10, drawing seven and losing four, with 31 goals scored and 22 conceded.

However, while satisfied with the Reds’ progress under his tutelage to date, Klopp insists there’s little time for reflection as they strive for progression.

“It is not the time to think about things like this too much,” the boss said at his pre-match press conference when asked about his century of days at the helm.

“After 102 days, we have a very important game against Manchester United and what we want to do is make the record better.

“It has been an intensive time, but so far, so good. We could have done better, how it always is in life, and we could have done worse. A lot of perfect moments, some average moments and not too many bad moments. That’s how life is and football is in the middle of normal life and we have to carry on.

“Now after this time, I can say we’re really settled in and we know much more about the club. It’s been a good time until now, but in football the most important thing are the results. We know this but we’re going for it, and I think everyone can see. We are trying to improve as quickly as possible.

“Sometimes you have to take a step back to make the next step in the right direction. That’s what we’ve done and until now, I’m fine.”

Upon arriving at Anfield back in October, Klopp spoke of his desire to implement a high-energy, intense playing style.

The German’s desire to help provide enjoyable football for supporters has not diminished, insisting it is Liverpool’s job to produce displays that capture the imagination.

Klopp said: “First of all, I am a football fan and as a football fan, if I watch football then I want to be entertained. It’s not always possible, and sometimes I need other reasons to watch football, but I think it is one of the most important things in football.

“You are only here because you’re interested in it. Why are you interested in it? Because it’s a perfect game, in my opinion. You can celebrate big victories together, you have to go through big defeats together and that’s what football is.

“Between these things you have to play football that people want to talk about. As I said after the Arsenal game, I don’t like 3-3 too much but after the game was over, I have to say I think a lot of people liked it. There was a lot of action in the game and a lot of goals and that’s what football should be.

“It would not be the same game if people only go into the stadium and think about tactics and think, ‘This player needs to move three yards left or four yards right.’ Football is not the most complicated game in the world and everyone can talk about it.

“I like football because of the moments you can enjoy - it’s not only a perfect goal, it’s a perfect challenge, a header, the atmosphere in the stadium…everything. That’s what I like in football and it’s our job to try to do it as often as possible.”
