Having marked his 100th league appearance for Liverpool with a clean sheet and victory, Simon Mignolet is eager to make sure that tally continues to increase.

The Belgium international reached the landmark against Manchester City on Wednesday night as the Reds thrilled Anfield with a comprehensive 3-0 win.

But while the goalkeeper was naturally pleased with the milestone, he wants to quickly move on and focus on what more can be achieved in the future.

“To be honest, I was a bit surprised to hear it is my 100th league game. A Belgian journalist reminded me about it recently,” Mignolet said in the matchday programme.

“He mentioned the names of the other ‘keepers who have played 100 or more games here and it is a big honour to be in their company.

“Guys like Ray Clemence, Pepe [Reina], Jerzy Dudek, Bruce Grobbelaar – all big names who people remember for doing good things and winning many trophies between them.

“So it’s nice to be in there alongside them, although that doesn’t mean I’ve done the same things. I didn’t expect to reach 100 so quickly.

“I’m happy about it and hopefully there are many more games to come. I think in football it’s not about what you’ve done, it’s about what you can do next.”
