Ronnie Whelan scored the winning goal in extra-time to secure Liverpool's grasp on the League Cup.

The Irish midfielder scored two in the final a year before and repeated his heroics in 1983 to make it 2-1 against Manchester United in the 98th minute with a wonderful curling effort.

Liverpool landed their third League Cup honour on the bounce, in what was Bob Paisley's last cup final appearance as manager of the club.

Suarez and Sturridge reach landmark...

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge became the first Liverpool strike partnership since 1964 to record 20 goals each in a single season, following the 2-1 home win over Sunderland in 2014.

Sturridge found the back the net in the second half to record his 20th league goal of the campaign and help the Reds pick up a crucial three points.

Reds make it 13 unbeaten...

On this day in 1989, Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to 13 games with a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.

Kenny Dalglish's side responded brilliantly to Terry Fenwick's 48th-minute opener by levelling from the spot through John Aldridge two minutes later.

Peter Beardsley then grabbed the winner at White Hart Lane to complete the turnaround.
