In his official programme notes for the visit of Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League, Jürgen Klopp praises both sets of supporters and explains why his players are relishing another European night under the Anfield floodlights.

The following is an exclusive extract from ‘This Is Anfield’: "Tonight promises to be a very special occasion, with two of Europe’s biggest clubs playing in a special ground in front of two groups of amazing supporters.

"The players are relishing the opportunity to play in a game of this importance. I can sense it and I really like this feeling. There is a positive vibe about us at the moment. We are not excited or nervous – we are focused and we are ready.

"At the time of writing these notes I do not know what my starting 11 will be for this evening, or at least if I do know I’m not prepared to reveal it yet. But what is certain, we have a squad of players who are hungry and greedy for the team to do well, not themselves as individuals.

"This sort of attitude is crucial for our development. I never want players who are ‘happy’ not to be playing – this is absolutely not allowed. However, it is important to have players who realise the team performance and team result comes ahead of everything else.

"This is the environment we need to go forward and I think we are seeing the signs of it within our organisation.”
