With chaos ensuing in the final few minutes on Thursday night, keeping a cool head may have proved difficult for most - but thankfully for Liverpool, James Milner remained ice cold.

Anfield was electric in stoppage-time of the Reds' clash with Borussia Dortmund, as the home fans sensed their team could book a place in the Europa League semi-finals in dramatic fashion.

Late on, they were were awarded a free-kick near the halfway line and packed the opposition box in hope of grabbing the all-important goal they needed.

But, when Milner took the set-piece, instead of launching the ball into the penalty area, he opted for a quick pass towards striker Daniel Sturridge.

The No.7 then dashed up the pitch to offer an option for his teammate, and was found inside the penalty area with a clever pass through the legs.

Milner subsequently showed guile and poise to deliver the cross that allowed Dejan Lovren to head in and make it 4-3, sending Anfield into complete pandemonium.

Reflecting on that incredible moment after the match, he told Liverpoolfc.com: "That's the important thing - just having that clarity.

"Everyone wants to get it forward and get it into the box and get the goal, [but] sometimes you just have to be that bit more patient and make the right decisions and keep calm. That's why we're out there and that's what we've got to try to do.

"Studge made a great run for the short free-kick and I just managed to get it back and put it back post. It was a great header from Dejan - it sparked great scenes.

"You feel that tension in the ground, everybody is willing you on, but you just have to try to stay calm and make the right decisions."

Following the win over BVB, Jürgen Klopp's side now have a wonderful opportunity to end the season with a piece of silverware that would highlight their progress.

And Milner believes the Reds' last two results are proof of how they are coming on under the German boss.

"The longer the manager is here, the better we will get," he added.

"You can see his style in the team more and more every time we play - that's becoming second nature to the boys.

"I think even the result at the weekend [against Stoke] contributed massively, in keeping that momentum.

"There were a few changes as well, so the younger boys coming in and doing well, pushing for shirts.

"I think to pull off a result like that you need that unity and team spirit, everyone pulling in the right direction. [It] was pleasing for everyone at the club."
