In at number five is the legendary Albert Stubbins.

The forward was a hero at St James' Park and both Liverpool and Everton wanted to sign him.

Thankfully it was the red half that he chose, and he netted an impressive 83 goals in 178 games for Liverpool between 1946 and 1953.

His popularity was such that the Reds supporters had a famous chant for him: 'A-L-B-E-R-T, Albert Stubbins is the man for me!'
