Kenny Dalglish selected himself as a substitute for his final Liverpool appearance as a player - a game which was preceded by the Reds being awarded their 18th league title.

With the championship having been secured courtesy of a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers, Alan Hansen was presented with the trophy before the meeting with the Rams.

And, after the heroics of Peter Shilton had denied the Reds time and time again during the match, it was time for the King to make his final entrance. A roar from the Kop signalled his arrival for Jan Molby on 71 minutes, and the switch certainly inspired his team.

A Gary Gillespie goal nine minutes from time secured all three points for Dalglish’s side, after the Scot pounced on a rebound from Ronny Rosenthal’s parried strike.

This sparked carnival-like celebrations from the Kop, with the party continuing long into the night.

Dalglish’s final game and the trophy presentation made this a memorable evening at Anfield, rounding off another great season for the Reds.
