Coming just four days after he had inspired Liverpool to Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final against Forest, Brian Clough’s side just couldn’t handle Barnes.
It was a truly sensational performance as goals from Ray Houghton, Peter Beardsley, Gary Gillespie and a double from John Aldridge put the seal on a wonderful night.
