John Arne Riise retires from football
Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.
The Norwegian, who most recently played for the club where his career started, Aalesund, revealed the news in a blog post on his official website on Monday.
Riise spent seven years of his 20-year professional career at Anfield after arriving from Monaco to link up with Gerard Houllier.
The Molde-bon full-back was one of the heroes of the miraculous 2005 Champions League victory and also claimed an FA Cup, League Cup and two UEFA Super Cups during his time with the Reds.
Since leaving the club in 2008, Riise has featured for Roma, Fulham, APOEL, Delhi Dynamos and, finally, Aalesund.
He ends his career as the most-capped Norway player of all-time, having appeared for his country 110 times.
