Emre on the bench as Germany confirm last-16 spot
Emre Can was again an unused substitute as Germany confirmed a spot in the knockout stages of Euro 2016 with a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.
A goal from Mario Gomez on the half-hour mark proved sufficient for the world champions to take all three points at the Parc des Princes in Paris – and therefore top Group C.
Can, who has yet to feature at the tournament, will now hope to be involved when Germany face one of the best third-place finishers in Lille on Sunday afternoon.
