Who’ll win the league?
Arsenal. I’ve seen them a bit in pre-season and I’ve been impressed with Granit Xhaka. If they can get a central defender and a striker then they have got as good a chance as anyone.
Where will Liverpool finish?
Sixth.
What do you think of the new additions to the Liverpool squad?
I’ve been impressed by the majority of them. I like the look of Joel Matip, Sadio Mane’s performance against Barcelona hinted at great promise for the future. It remains to be seen where Georginio Wijnaldum will play but the fact Jürgen Klopp was so delighted to sign him suggests he will have a big role to play. I don’t think we can talk about these signings without mentioning Ragnar Klavan. He has been no fuss, no thrills and just does what a defender should do. I think he will play more games than people might expect him to.
What are the expectations as Jürgen Klopp prepares for his first full season in charge of the club?
Supporters just want to see Liverpool competitive again and consistent. The ambition is obviously to finish in the top four. Are they ready to do it this season? If you watched them against Barcelona you would say yes but if you saw the performance against Mainz you would say no. I think it’s difficult to call with Liverpool at this minute because there really are some promising signs but it’s just finding that consistency. If they could get the consistency then they could well finish in the top four but we’ll have to wait and see.
Surprise package team?
I will go for Leicester City again. People are anticipating that Leicester will combust but I don’t think they will. I’m not saying they are going to win the Premier League again but I don’t think they will drop away as badly as people might say they will.
Relegated?
Hull, West Bromwich Albion and Watford.
LFC player to watch?
Jordan Henderson.
One hope as a reporter this season?
That the season lasts as long as last year’s did but has a better conclusion in the fact that we get to report on some silverware.
