John Aldridge scored 11 consecutive penalties for Liverpool before his only miss for the club, in the 1988 FA Cup final at Wembley.

The striker had previously been faultless from the spot that season after kicking off his run with a conversion against Coventry City.

His spot-kicks came in patches from then on, with four in September, two in October, two in December and two in April taking Aldridge’s streak into double figures.

It was brought to a disappointing end during the defeat by Wimbledon, however, and that miss denied him an unblemished Reds record from 12 yards.
