Photo gallery: Liverpool beat Spurs thanks to Sturridge brace
Liverpool reached the last eight of the EFL Cup with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur courtesy of a brace from Daniel Sturridge at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Sturridge produced a pair of typically cool finishes in each half to put the Reds into a two-goal lead, before Vincent Janssen pulled one back for Spurs with a penalty 14 minutes from time.
The Liverpool striker went agonisingly close to completing his hat-trick when his deflected shot hit the underside of the bar late on, but Jürgen Klopp's team saw out the tie confidently to take their place in the draw for the quarter-finals, to be held on Wednesday evening.
