Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield for their final game of 2016 this evening. Here, club statistician Ged Rea gives us the factual lowdown ahead of the highly-anticipated Premier League clash...

The Reds did the league double over City last season, with Jürgen Klopp's side coming out on top 4-1 away and 3-0 at home. However, City won the League Cup final between the teams at Wembley in February.

Roberto Firmino scored his first Liverpool goal in that victory at the Etihad Stadium last November.

Liverpool have lost just six of the last 32 league meetings home and away.

Since the inception of the Premier League, the Reds have won 17 of the 38 meetings, with City winning seven. At Anfield, they have won 13, drawn five and lost one of 19.

Liverpool have scored in each of the last 22 league clashes with City at Anfield. The last time they failed to find the net was in a goalless draw in August 1986.

This will be the 17th time Liverpool have played on New Year's Eve. Their last game on this day was a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Anfield in 2005, with Peter Crouch netting the only goal.

So far in the Premier League in 2016, Liverpool have won 20 of their 37 games, drawing 10 and losing seven.

They have netted 86 top-flight goals in the calendar year, with their leading scorers being Firmino (15), Adam Lallana (11) and James Milner, Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane (all eight).

Mane scored a hat-trick against City last season in Southampton's 4-2 win at St Mary's in May.

The Reds are unbeaten in 23 home games in all competitions since losing to Stoke City in the League Cup back in January.

Liverpool have 40 points from 18 games this season. Their best ever tally at the halfway stage in a Premier League campaign is 42, set in 2008-09, while they gained 41 in 2005-06.
