Summer signing Georginio Wijnaldum is already a popular figure among Kopites, and Molby too has been impressed by his start to life at Anfield.

The Dutchman was a regular goalscorer during one season at Newcastle United but is asked to do more work between boxes since working with Reds boss Klopp.

And Molby believes Wijnaldum's technical ability means that suits him down to the ground.

"He did well for Newcastle, playing further forward, breaking the lines, scoring goals, and when we signed him I thought that was going to be his role. But Jürgen has moved him further back and I can see why.

"Technically, he’s very, very good but also not every team, not every football player can play at a tempo. Obviously, you’ve got to be able to get around the pitch, but also you’ve got to be able to play at that tempo, and Wijnaldum can. He sees things quickly enough with and without the ball, I think he’s been very impressive.

"People keep going on about his lack of goals but he’s now playing a different role. If you shuffle him forward a little bit further, he’ll get his goals, but I think he’s been very impressive where he’s playing at the moment."
