As a former midfielder himself, Molby is always going to have a certain bias regarding the position's importance.

But the Dane went on to explain in detail why the likes of Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana and Can will be so significant to the Reds' hopes of success over the remainder of the season.

"In any game, it’s kind of where you fight for the right to play. Some games, you don’t get on top of the opposition or get the right to play, so you have to fight for the whole game. Midfield is – and I know people have heard it a million times – is where it’s won and lost.

"You get in there, get off to a good start, get on top of the opposition, get the right to play and it increases your chances of winning. If you can’t get on top of the opposition, you make sure they don’t get on top of you – that’s how it works.

"Midfield players are involved a lot more than anyone else, it’s the greatest place to play."
