Liverpool host Southampton tonight in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final. Club statistician Ged Rea has all the best facts and figures ahead of the game at Anfield...

On the last five occasions Liverpool have played the away leg of a League Cup last-four tie first, they have progressed to the final - doing so in 2016, 2012, 2003, 2001 and against Southampton in 1987.

The Reds have never lost both legs of a League Cup semi-final, nor have they failed to score in both legs.

Liverpool are appearing in a record 17th League Cup semi-final. They also hold the competition record for final appearances (12) and final wins (eight).

It is the third season in a row the Reds have reached this stage of the competition, and the fourth time in six campaigns.

Liverpool's defeat to Chelsea in the 2015 semi-final of the League Cup is the only time they have been eliminated in their last six last-four ties.

Of the previous 16 semi-final games in this competition at Anfield, the Reds have won eight, drawn seven and lost one. That sole defeat came last season at the hands of Stoke City, but Liverpool went through on penalties.

Liverpool have failed to score in only five of their 51 meetings with the Saints at Anfield in all competitions.

Emre Can and Divock Origi are Liverpool's only ever-presents during this season's EFL Cup run.
