Adam Lallana's 'outstanding year' for both club and country makes him a worthy winner of England's Player of the Year award, Jürgen Klopp feels.

Liverpool man Lallana was today named the Three Lions’ stand-out performer in 2016 after receiving 39 per cent of votes cast by members of the England Supporters Club - some 27 per cent more than the second-placed Jamie Vardy.

A tally of seven goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season is indicative of Lallana’s importance to Klopp’s team, and the Reds manager is delighted to see the 28-year-old get such recognition for his performances throughout last year.

“That’s very nice - very, very nice. I think the right decision, a good decision,” the Liverpool boss said at his press conference this afternoon.

“It’s a decision of the supporters? So, wonderful. I think he really deserved it because he had an outstanding year, not only [for] the national team but in the national team too.

“If you want, he’s kind of a late starter and so it’s really nice that people could see what he is doing. I’m really happy for him.”
