Liverpool will use Saturday’s Anfield clash with Arsenal to show their true colours, Gary McAllister has insisted.

The Reds suffered a setback as they lost 3-1 at Leicester City on Monday to extend their record in 2017 to two wins in 12 games in all competitions, but the Scot is confident Jürgen Klopp’s side have the necessary resolve to return to their best form this weekend.

“I’m sure there will be a reaction,” McAllister told Liverpoolfc.com.

“In recent weeks, we had a poor result against Hull and the reaction was a wonderful performance at Anfield against Spurs, and I’m sure the manager is looking for the same rebound after a poor result at Leicester.

“The players have got to stick together. In several games this season we have produced some wonderful displays but there has been that little bit of inconsistency, so just performing at a consistent level is always the key.

“I’m sure Jürgen will get a response from the lads at Anfield on Saturday.”

Although the Gunners have a game in hand over Klopp’s charges, they sit just a point ahead in the Premier League table ahead of the weekend's game.

And McAllister feels the Reds can make a statement of intent against one of their closest top-four rivals, especially with the backing of the Anfield crowd.

He said: “The atmosphere will be great at Anfield and it’s a fixture that over the years has produced some wonderful games.

“It’s a game against one of the teams we are fighting to get one of those European spots and I do fancy us to bounce back.”

McAllister was speaking at a special event which saw the Liverpool FC Foundation team up with Merseyside Fire and Rescue service to deliver new practical and educational activities to local youngsters.

Building on the success of the LFC Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme, Kicks Football Plus is a new collaborative initiative between the club’s official charity, the Premier League and Merseyside Fire and Rescue.

Andrea Cooper, head of LFC Foundation, said: "I am delighted that we have renewed and extended our partnership with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

"I believe that by working collaboratively we can reach out to and engage with many more youngsters in the most deprived areas across the city and help tackle the key issues."
