Few Liverpool fans will need reminding of the glory of 2000-01.

The UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup treble was won and, by virtue of a third-placed finish in the Premier League, Gerard Houllier’s Reds also secured a place in the third qualifying round of the 2001-02 Champions League.

Standing in Liverpool’s way of a maiden appearance in the group stages were FC Haka.

The Finnish club didn’t prove much of an obstacle, though, as Houllier’s team ran out 9-1 aggregate winners.

The tone was set with a 5-0 first-leg victory in Helsinki - a game that featured a second-half hat-trick from Michael Owen - and Liverpool coasted to a 4-1 second-leg success at Anfield.

Houllier’s men went on to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, where they narrowly lost out to eventual finalists Bayer Leverkusen.
