In added time of this FA Cup third-round tie at Kenilworth Road, Luton Town goalkeeper Marlon Beresford ran forward into the Liverpool box in search of a last-gasp equaliser as the hosts prepared to take a corner.

However, it would be Xabi Alonso, not Beresford, who grabbed the headlines with an audacious 70-yard strike to secure a 5-3 win.

As Luton's corner and subsequent cross were cleared, Alonso beat the retreating Beresford to the dropping ball.

The Liverpool midfielder's first touch controlled it inside his own half, his second moved the ball away from the stranded stopper and his third swept a long-range effort into the open net.

Vision. Accuracy. Execution.
