The popular Dutchman’s only Liverpool hat-trick could not have been better timed.
With more than a bit of help from the newly-signed Luis Suarez, the tireless attacker put Manchester United to the sword from a combined total of around seven yards at Anfield.
A prod on the goalline after his fellow forward had bamboozled most of the visiting defence single-handedly was followed by an opportunistic header and a rebound from a Suarez free-kick.
