Liverpool had not scored in their previous five trips to Old Trafford but Bob Paisley's reigning European champions ended that goal drought in emphatic style.
Paisley's men, who had been denied an unprecedented treble by United's FA Cup win two seasons earlier, totally overwhelmed the Red Devils thanks to goals from Ray Kennedy, Jimmy Case and a fantastic solo effort by David Fairclough.
Even the home fans applauded Fairclough's effort, according to the Liverpool Echo. Liverpool would march on to claim their 11th Division One championship.
