Dejan Lovren: We can be proud of what we achieved
Dejan Lovren acknowledged Croatia’s disappointment at losing out in the World Cup final to France on Sunday, but insisted his country should be proud of their achievements.
The Liverpool defender and his teammates produced a good performance in the Moscow showpiece after an outstanding tournament; however, it was Les Bleus who ultimately lifted the trophy with a 4-2 victory.
Lovren said afterwards: “I think we played one of our best games of the tournament, but in the end you look at the result and it was not enough.
“Of course, we are disappointed in some moments about the referee’s decisions, but we have nothing to look back about. It is over and we should accept mistakes happened.
“We should be proud; proud of our country, our players and what we achieved in such difficult times.”
He added: “I feel grateful about everything we achieved. We’re going home with a smile and this is the most important thing.
“Everyone is proud and we should never forget this for the rest of our lives. Second place is something big for us.”
